Sara Martin, LCSW, Psy. D. Candidate
Sara is a Psy. D. doctoral candidate at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where she is completing a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. In her doctoral studies, Sara received advanced training in cognitive behavioral therapy, a theoretical approach which focuses on the connections between our thinking patterns and emotional experiences. Her approach to therapy also encourages clients to explore their core beliefs and early life experiences that may have impacted the development of maladaptive thinking patterns and behaviors. Sara seeks to support clients by providing a warm and accepting environment in which clients can bolster their inner recourse to overcome life challenges. Believing that healing is a process of personal growth and spiritual renewal, Sara also welcomes the integration of clients’ cultural and spiritual beliefs into the counseling process. Her current dissertation research explores topics related to the cultural and spiritual beliefs of the Plain Communities and culturally adapted counseling therapies.
Sara has a wealth of experience working with children and adolescents in various settings including schools, out-patient and treatment centers but also enjoys individual counseling with adults. She is particularly interested in working with young adults, women, families and the older adult populations. Areas of special interest and experience include difficulties with mood, anxiety and phobias, children with special needs, family discord, trauma recovery, parenting challenges, life adjustments, changing health related behaviors, grief and loss and spiritual concerns. Sara is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the American Psychological Association.
