Justin D. Charles PsyD
Justin is a Postdoctoral Fellow who works with adults of all ages and specializes in the treatment and evaluation of cognitive and behavioral changes often faced by those of a geriatric population. He realizes that certain psychological and cognitive problems can accompany aging, and that some older adults may find themselves facing significant challenges as they attempt to deal with multiple losses and life changes and transitions. He aims to provide psychological support and encouragement to individuals as they navigate through these challenges, while also providing neuropsychological assessment to assist with the identification and treatment of cognitive problems.
Dr. Charles earned his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Wheaton College and completed an internship at the Coatesville VA Hospital. Three additional years of practicum experiences provided him the opportunity to develop skill in the areas of psychological and neuropsychological assessment, along with individual and group psychotherapy.
While Dr. Charles is currently focused on geriatric mental health and geriatric neuropsychology, his training and experiences have prepared him to provide psychological services to a wide range of clients including adolescents, young adults and adults. Areas in which he commonly provides support include, but are not limited to: depression, anxiety, relational patterns, grief/bereavement, anger, substance abuse, marital conflict, and adjusting to life transitions (i.e. divorce, change of employment, change of living environment, etc.).
Dr. Charles approaches therapy through the use of research-supported techniques, especially the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal theory. While Dr. Charles’s therapeutic strategies are informed by research, he understands that every client is unique and requires specific and personalized support, such that the same therapeutic intervention will not be equally effective for every individual. For this reason, one of Dr. Charles’s goals is to work with clients to identify and utilize therapeutic techniques that are most beneficial given their unique personality and circumstances.
